"The Death of Murphy"
Charlotte Film Premier and Q&A with Director

Thursday, February 5, 2009
Sarah Belk Gambrell Auditorium
7:30 p.m.

Bryan Ferguson has been writing for various projects for the last 10 years. He began performing spoken word poetry with the band Urban Abstract and later wrote and directed his own theatrical productions on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University, where he graduated in 1999 as an English major. A founding member of the Black Ink Monks, Inc., Ferguson followed his JCSU graduation with the highly competitive graduate film program of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he began developing scripts for the screen. As Ferguson has honed his skills as an effective filmmaker, his styles and tastes have fallen into varying light and dark comedic subject matters. His last film, The Death of Murphy, is a comedy about a man fighting against his own bad luck, and earned Ferguson the Spike Lee Fellowship at NYU. The Death of Murphy has been screened in various international film festivals such as the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and Festival du Cinema de Paris. Currently, Ferguson lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he is writing other feature-length scripts, as well as acting and working as a DJ. The screening of The Death of Murphy at JCSU will be the film’s Southeast U.S. premier.
