Tuition comprises less than half the cost of a JCSU education. The remaining amount comes from endowment income and gifts.
U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan spent a couple of hours on the Johnson C. Smith University campus on Jan.10 to review the school’s urban corridor development plans and meet with JCSU President Ronald L. Carter. She also toured the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research building and the Smith Institute for Applied Research.
Dr. Michael K. Fauntroy, associate professor at George Mason School of Public Policy, will present a free public lecture, “Black Politics: A Call to Action,” at 7 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Johnson C. Smith University.
Terrell Clark, an Atlanta-based photographer known for his recent book “Eyes of Uganda: A Sociological Perspective,” will present a free public lecture at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Johnson C. Smith University.
Johnson C. Smith University President Ronald L. Carter is featured on the cover of the January issue of Diverse Issues in Higher Education. In the story “Leading from the Heart,” Carter relates how the University is helping former foster children feel at home at Johnson C. Smith University as part of the institution’s strategic plan.
JCSU has been invited to join the Center for Digital Forensics Academic Excellence (CDFAE) program after completing its Undergraduate Research Center in Electronics and Cyber Security, thanks to a $400,000 Congressionally directed grant the university received in 2010. The funding allowed JCSU to develop laboratories, software, summer research programs and a curriculum for a minor in cyber security that will tentatively be offered during the 2012-2013 academic year.
Johnson C. Smith University Athletics will recognize some of their recent milestones on Saturday, January 28th during the basketball contests for an event entitled an “Evening of Champions”. The Golden Bulls women’s and men’s basketball teams will clash with divisional foe Fayetteville State University in Brayboy Gymnasium on that night.
Award-winning columnist and author Eugene Robinson will kick off Johnson C. Smith University’s Lyceum Series entitled “Democracy 2012: The Road to Charlotte” with a free public lecture at 7 p.m. on January 26, 2012, at Biddle Hall on the University campus, 100 Beatties Ford Rd. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has announced the finalists for the fourth annual CIAA Division of the highly regarded Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award program. Seniors LaQwesha Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) and James Otey (Roanoke, VA) will represent Johnson C. Smith University as the selections from the women’s and men’s basketball teams, respectively.
Charlotte, N.C. – The Steering Committee for the Charlotte Mecklenburg African American Community Fund is pleased to announce its 2011 grant award recipients. The award recipients are Hope Haven, Inc. ($10,000), Lupus Foundation of America, Piedmont Chapter ($5,000), C. Ray & Cynthia Kennedy Foundation ($5,000), Girl Talk ($3,750), Lakewood Community Development Corporation ($3,750), and Classroom Central ($2,500).
