The August issue of U.S. Airways Magazine includes an article about Johnson C. Smith University in a special segment on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The article is titled “Leading Innovation – Combining Cutting-Edge Technology with Community Engagement.” It draws attention to the University’s STEM program, Innovo Laboratory, student volunteerism, campus improvements and athletics.
Johnson C. Smith University in conjunction with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated will be conducting the JCSU/Coca-Cola MasterBULL Griller Cook-off at each of the home Golden Bull football games this season. There are no entry fees for the contest, but all participants must purchase a JCSU tailgate space to compete.
Charles Jones of Charlotte, N.C., sat in the tenth row during the March on Washington to hear Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. deliver his “I Have a Dream” speech. Jones was a member of the Freedom Riders whose activism cost him 30 days working on a chain gang in Rock Hill, S.C.
