Andrew Roby, Inc. has been selected to restore the historical former residence of Dr. George E. Davis (1862-1959), the first black professor at Johnson C. Smith University. Once restored, the house will serve as the headquarters of the Foster Village Network Center. This innovative initiative provides teens aging out of the foster care system with high school and higher education opportunities. The restoration project is a fitting tribute to Dr. Davis, whose mission was to provide access to education for all.

Johnson C. Smith University announces the appointment of Dr. Brian Jones as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, effective immediately. He replaces former Dean Joseph Turner, who retired in May 2013. Jones has also become an associate professor, effective July 1.

Johnson C. Smith University is partnering with the Northwest Corridor Indaba on a public opinion project to help residents understand and influence effective political leadership and representation of the Northwest Corridor. The Indaba is a community forum representing 30 neighborhoods and businesses in the Northwest Corridor. The group works with elected officials representing the area and civic leaders throughout Charlotte.
More than 60 community members of the Northwest Corridor Indaba welcomed Charlotte’s new City Manager, Ron Carlee, during a reception on July 10 in Grimes Lounge. The event offered an opportunity for representatives from area neighborhoods and businesses to greet the new manager while Dr. Carter shared some highlights of University-led projects in the Corridor.
