The National Executive Board of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. recently welcomed Johnson C. Smith University as the newest institution to offer membership to its brotherhood. It is the first Latino fraternity at Johnson C. Smith University and at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
The Golden LEAF Foundation Awards Scholarships through North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities
Raleigh, NC, April 23, 2014 – The Golden LEAF Foundation awarded $210,000 to North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities that was distributed among NCICU’s member colleges for the 2013-2014 academic year.
In observance of the 147th Founders’ Week at Johnson C. Smith University, the sixth annual Arch of Triumph Gala honored two individuals and one organization for their outstanding contributions to higher education, economic development and entrepreneurship.
Today Charlotte celebrated another historic jewel in its crown. City and county officials joined Johnson C. Smith University in cutting the ribbon to open the newly renovated George E. Davis House at 301 Campus Street in the West End.
Johnson C. Smith University is pleased to announce a gift of $825,000 from the John M. Belk Endowment to increase access to the university by providing scholarships to deserving students.
Johnson C. Smith University is collaborating with Sugar Creek Charter School (SCCS) and Friendships Gardens of Charlotte to generate interest in sustainability through gardening while helping to solve Charlotte’s food desert issue.
Darrica Byrd, a junior at Johnson C. Smith University, participated in a nationally competitive event funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in February. Byrd, was among eight students in the nation selected to attend this year’s Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit in Boca Raton, Fla.
Nine students and three residence hall coordinators from Johnson C. Smith University have been trained to serve as mentors in the Transitional Aftercare Network (TAN). TAN is a developmental program for inmates returning to their private lives after incarceration.
