Tuition comprises less than half the cost of a JCSU education. The remaining amount comes from endowment income and gifts.

Charlotte, N.C., - Feb. 1, 2013 – On Feb. 26 Johnson C. Smith University’s HealthPlex will begin a free community weight management program for the public. Weekly sessions will be held every Monday from 5:30-6:15 p.m. at the HealthPlex located near Brayboy Gymnasium.

Smith University campus has taken on a new look that draws attention to our increasing emphasis on global education. The exterior wall of the student union displays the words “The World is Your Home” as a testament of the growing diversity at JCSU. Charlotte, N.C., January 21, 2013- For sophomore Danyell Mitchell, college was not always an option. As a youth growing up in foster care in Cleveland, Ohio, she had little or no guidance about how to get into college, let alone pay for it. Even the application process proved daunting. “College was not an option in my head because I knew I couldn’t afford it,” said Mitchell. But in the back of her mind was a nagging desire to become the first in her family to attend.
For the second consecutive year, Johnson C. Smith University will be among colleges and universities around the nation featured on the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and BET network Annual Special An Evening of Stars® on Jan. 27 at 10 p.m. The variety show is created to focus public attention on America's need for more African American college graduates and UNCF's work getting students to and through college.
Charlotte, N.C., - Jan. 8, 2013 – Beginning Jan. 22, Johnson C. Smith University’s HealthPlex will offer a free weight management program for the community of the Northwest Corridor. Twelve group sessions will be held Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the HealthPlex located near Brayboy Gymnasium. The goal of the program is to help participants learn how to maintain healthy lifestyles by creating good eating habits and exercising regularly.

Charlotte, N.C., - Nov. 29, 2012 – Partnering with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Johnson C. Smith University hosted the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) day Oct. 20, for more than 20 students from Charlotte Mecklenburg high schools. University students in an educational psychology class planned and organized the event to help the participants gain insight into college life.
