Johnson C. Smith University Awarded for Environmental Defense Fund Climate Corps Program

Charlotte, N.C., - Nov. 16, 2012 – The Environmental Defense Fund has recognized Johnson C. Smith University for its outstanding commitment to a clean energy future and cultivation of the next generation of environmental leaders. As part of Johnson C. Smith University’s sustainability efforts, the University is involved with the Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate Corps program. The pioneering summer fellowship program places specially trained MBA and MPA students in companies, cities and universities to research and promote energy efficiency. This program is designed to cut pollution by overcoming barriers that prevent organizations from investing in energy efficiency.

Simmons Joins African-American Students on the Road Less Traveled to Earn a Ph.D.

Charlotte, N.C., - Nov. 8, 2012 – As a senior English education major at Johnson C. Smith University, Lauren Simmons has a jump start on graduate school. After attending an eight-week summer doctoral program at University of California-Riverside, she went through the process of writing a dissertation. Such an experience will better prepare her to fulfill her dream of eventually earning a doctorate in education psychology or education policy. Simmons and classmates Asia Mapp and Jenelle Martin were among six students selected across the nation to attend the Lindon Barrett Scholars Mentoring Program at Riverside this past summer.

“COURAGE” Exhibit Opens at Johnson C. Smith University

Smith University is teaming up with Microsoft Corporation to improve technology teaching and learning as part of an innovative partnership available to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Golden Bulls Football Celebrates a 27-21 Homecoming Win Over Saint Augustine's

The Johnson C Smith University football team set some historically marks with their 27-21 Homecoming victory over Saint Augustine’s University on Saturday afternoon at the Irwin Belk Complex. JCSU improves to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAA, while St. Augustine’s drops to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference. The Golden Bulls have won three consecutive games for the first time since the 2006 season.

More than 200 guests enjoyed the annual Big Hitters reception in Grimes Lounge following the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Office of Institutional Advancement sponsored the event to thank alumni and friends who have given $1,000 or more to the University during the past year. Guests also included members of the 1867 Society, which includes those who have given more than $10,000 since the year 2000.

Louis Farrakhan Visits Johnson C. Smith University

His visit to Charlotte was a celebration of the 17th anniversary of his million man march on Washington, D.C.
