The Johnson C Smith University football team set some historically marks with their 27-21 Homecoming victory over Saint Augustine’s University on Saturday afternoon at the Irwin Belk Complex. JCSU improves to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAA, while St. Augustine’s drops to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference. The Golden Bulls have won three consecutive games for the first time since the 2006 season.
More than 200 guests enjoyed the annual Big Hitters reception in Grimes Lounge following the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Office of Institutional Advancement sponsored the event to thank alumni and friends who have given $1,000 or more to the University during the past year. Guests also included members of the 1867 Society, which includes those who have given more than $10,000 since the year 2000.

The activity lineup includes the coronation induction ceremony, pep rally, National Pan-Hellenic Council step show, parade, annual FestiVille celebration, homecoming game, and the alumni gala. The pep rally, which will kick off the weekend celebration, is scheduled to take place in the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium at 3 p.m. on Oct. 26.

When she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she learned that survivorship was limited to five-year statistics. "I asked myself why I would need five years to accomplish what I really felt passionate about doing today," says Lawson, an English instructor and academic advisor at Johnson C. Smith University.
