Charlotte, N.C., October 25, 2012 – As part of its mission to transform education in the sciences, Johnson C. Smith University broke ground today on the 62,000-square-foot Science Center that will house innovative programs in the College of Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Charlotte, N.C., - Oct. 23, 2012 – “The future is on you,” declared Minister Louis Farrakhan, who visited Johnson C. Smith University on Oct. 12. His visit to Charlotte was a celebration of the 17th anniversary of his million man march on Washington, D.C. Farrakhan, who considered it a “great honor” to be speaking in front of University students and faculty, praised the University for its efforts to build diversity on campus and within the surrounding community.

Charlotte, N.C., - Oct. 15, 2012 – Johnson C. Smith University will celebrate Homecoming 2012, “The Smith Way: It’s Contagious,” beginning Sunday, Oct. 21. The activity lineup includes the coronation induction ceremony, pep rally, National Pan-Hellenic Council step show, parade, annual FestiVille celebration, homecoming game, and the alumni gala. The pep rally, which will kick off the weekend celebration, is scheduled to take place in the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium at 3 p.m. on Oct. 26.

Charlotte, N.C., - October 15, 2012 – Susan Lawson feels she has a 'calling' to teach writing. When she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she learned that survivorship was limited to five-year statistics. "I asked myself why I would need five years to accomplish what I really felt passionate about doing today," says Lawson, an English instructor and academic advisor at Johnson C. Smith University.

Within an hour after the ribbon cutting at Mosaic Village, a parade of students started to enter the parking deck, pop open their trunks and carry armloads of supplies into their two-, four- and five-bedroom apartments. For many students, the day symbolized another step toward independence.
Charlotte, N.C. – October 4, 2012 – Mosaic Village, the latest jewel in Charlotte’s crown, opened on October 4 in the historic West End as the latest sign of revitalization in the Northwest Corridor. Johnson C. Smith University President Ronald L. Carter joined Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, city officials and business leaders in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the 124,000-square-foot facility at 1635 West Trade Street.
