Women’s International Month Series at Johnson C. Smith University
Charlotte, N.C. (March 6, 2013) – In celebration of International Women’s Month, Johnson C. Smith University will present three free programs covering women’s issues as expressed in the arts, film and through panel discussion.
On Friday, March 8, artist Lauraberth Lima will exhibit her work and present a documentary screening in Grimes Lounge in the Student Union from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On Thursday, March 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., a student-led panel discussion will take place in the Technology Center, room 103 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Topics will cover women, politics and society with specific emphases on:
- the business of being female in traditionally conservative societies
- being the boss: women and organized crime
- voices of dissent: women and human rights in China
The series will culminate on March 19 with the screening of the film, “Miss Representation,” at 5:30 p.m. in Biddle Hall Auditorium. The film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America.
All events are sponsored by the JCSU Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Office of the President.
