Mr. and Ms. Johnson C. Smith University Crowned During JCSU Homecoming
Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 30, 2012) – Johnson C. Smith University recently crowned Mr. and Miss Johnson C. Smith University at the 2012 Coronation Ceremony during Homecoming Week. Michael De’Mario Bailey and Yolanda Amalia Babb were crowned king and queen during an evening ceremony on Oct 21.
“Receiving this crown ensures that anything is possible to achieve as long as you maintain faith and perseverance,” said Babb. After graduating in May 2013, she plans to earn a master’s degree in special education and then go on to earn a Ph.D. in education administration. To prepare for her career goal of becoming an elementary school teacher, Babb participates in youth mentoring projects that prepare them for college.
Bailey aspires to be a representative in the United States Congress. He currently works for Common Cause of North Carolina as a Democracy Fellow promoting voter engagement. Part of his involvement in campus life includes starting the Men of Smith Program to encourage leadership and address mental, physical and societal issues facing minority males. “Holding this title allows me to represent my university and the male student population,” said Bailey, “It also grants me the humbling opportunity to form a position that reflects male leadership, service and scholarship of JCSU men on campus and in the community.”
The induction ceremony also recognized its campus kings and queens, and inducted the members of the Student Government Association.
