Johnson C. Smith University’s Kneisha Gabriel selected for Nestlé USA Leadership Symposium for Diverse Leaders of Tomorrow

Charlotte, N.C. (February 18, 2013) -- Kneisha Gabriel of Charlotte, a junior at Johnson C. Smith University, is among 30 students selected for the 2013 Nestlé USA Leadership Symposium for Diverse Leaders of Tomorrow. The fifth annual symposium will be held April 10-14 at the Nestlé USA Headquarters in Glendale, Calif.

During the four-day program, Gabriel will have the opportunity to meet with Nestlé senior executives, take a customized leadership training course, volunteer in the Los Angeles community and network with key representatives for Nestlé’s internship and full-time programs. The all-expense-paid trip includes round-trip coach air travel, a four-night hotel stay, arranging of all meals and the opportunity to network with future business leaders and Nestlé employees from all backgrounds.

This experience will do more than just expose Gabriel to other leaders. She plans to use the symposium to build her own leadership skills. “I take the Nestlé Leadership Symposium as a learning opportunity,” Gabriel said. “I can always use what I learn through this experience in my everyday life and in the future.”

Gabriel is a business major with a minor in retail management and marketing. Her campus activities include serving as vice president of institutional advancement for the student government association and president of Collegiate Women in Action. She is also a member of Democracy Matters, a group that solicits funds for election campaigns. Another important leadership role for Gabriel is her membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

In order to qualify for the leadership symposium, Gabriel wrote an essay describing how to use leadership to impact the community. “I wrote about all my activities as president of a student organization and what it takes to be a student leader on campus,” she said. Gabriel hopes to return from the symposium with skills that will help her grow as a leader and motivate others to get involved on campus and in the community.
