Johnson C. Smith University Homecoming Celebrates “The Smith Way”
Charlotte, N.C., - Oct. 15, 2012 – Johnson C. Smith University will celebrate Homecoming 2012, “The Smith Way: It’s Contagious,” beginning Sunday, Oct. 21. The activity lineup includes the coronation induction ceremony, pep rally, National Pan-Hellenic Council step show, parade, annual FestiVille celebration, homecoming game, and the alumni gala. The pep rally, which will kick off the weekend celebration, is scheduled to take place in the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium at 3 p.m. on Oct. 26.
The parade will begin Saturday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at West Charlotte High School on Senior Drive at Southwest Blvd. and end at the University main entrance at noon. The route will be approximately 1.5 miles.
The homecoming game will start at 1p.m. This year Johnson C. Smith University competes against St. Augustine’s University. Tickets may be purchased online; children under five and University students are admitted free. Regular adult prices are $25. The annual FestiVille, which is a combination of arts, culture, food and entertainment, will also take place Saturday on the University campus from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Other events to take place during the homecoming celebration include the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) step show and after-party on Oct. 27. The step show will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium. There will also be a Blue and Gold Alumni Gala on Oct. 27 at the Sheraton-Airport Hotel. Other events scheduled to take place are the concert jam, Gospel Explosion and the coronation induction ceremony. The induction will be held in the Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Oct. 21.
