JCSU Women’s Basketball Meets with First Lady Michelle Obama
Team met Mrs. Obama during the 2012 CIAA Tournament

Charlotte, NC (March 5, 2012) – The Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball team had the chance to meet with the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama,on Friday, March 2 during the 2012 CIAA Basketball Tournament at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Prior to the start of the matchup versus Chowan University, the Golden Bulls had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Obama courtside. She stopped by the arena to observe the tournament atmosphere and promote her Let’s Move! campaign.
Let’s Move is a comprehensive initiative dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and be able to pursue their dreams.
“It was amazing, it was such a surreal experience,” said senior guard Terran Quattlebaum when asked about meeting the first lady. “She was so nice and genuine; I told her that I loved her and she said I love you too, I felt like a little kid.”
“It’s not every day that you get to meet the first lady,” said JCSU head women’s basketball coach Vanessa Taylor. “We were excited. We enjoyed the moment and went back to the locker room and turned the page.”
After meeting Mrs. Obama, the Golden Bulls defeated Chowan 68-55 in the semi-finals to advance to the CIAA Tournament Finals. The JCSU women’s basketball team will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament on Friday, March 9th. Johnson C. Smith (No. 3 seed) will face Gannon University (No. 6 seed) in Edinboro, PA at 12:00 p.m.Return to Latest News
