JCSU student dances with Disney
Charlotte, N.C. (March 14, 2014) – Chelsea Bradford, a junior at Johnson C. Smith University majoring in Visual and Performing Arts, qualified for the Walt Disney college dance program and is now an official member of the Walt Disney World Company.
Bradford began training for dance at the age of 13. She developed her passion for the art after being introduced to different dance styles and genres. “As I grew older I began to nurture the art and it began to grow on me as well,” she said.
It was “by the Grace of God,” Bradford said, that the Disney Dance Program came about. She conducted a random search for dance auditions and saw that the Walt Disney Company was having an audition in Charlotte. She thanks her mentor, Janel Joyner, who is also her coach on JCSU’s Golden Attraction Dance Team for helping her follow through. “She made sure I had all the tools and documents I needed to make this audition a success,” Bradford said of Joyner. “Next thing I knew I was boarding a plane to Orlando.”
Bradford left Charlotte in January to begin the college program which is a paid internship. She was the only person to join the program from the Charlotte area. She will return to Johnson C. Smith University on May 30, 2014 to continue her collegiate studies. Bradford describes the experience as a “melting pot of talented students from different cultures.”
“Every time I see the shows at night it’s a different experience for me. It gives me chills. It’s confirmation that dreams do come true,” said Bradford. “There may be curve balls that stop you from achieving your goals, but you have to know in the end it’s yours,” she said of pursuing her dream. “You just have to pray hard and claim it!”
