146th Founders Day Convocation Sunday, April 21
Charlotte, N.C., - April, 15, 2013 – As a part of the Johnson C. Smith University Founders Day celebration, the 146th Founders Day Convocation will be held at the Jane Smith Memorial Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21. The event will honor Astrid Chirinos, president of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte (LACCC), with the Presidential Citation Award.
Nat Irvin, professor of management at the University of Louisville College of Business, is the keynote speaker. He is a former commentator for NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and a regular member of roundtable on NPR’s “News and Notes.” He has been quoted in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, the BBC, Christian Science Monitor, ABC News and Essence Magazine. Currently, he is the voice of the “N2 the Future,” educational program on Syndication One radio. He is the founder of Thrivals 3.0 @IdeaFestival, launched in 2010.
Chirinos, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, helped establish LACCC more than 17 years ago. She manages and deploys a number of programs, events and opportunities focused on the economic development, growth and success of the Latino business community in Charlotte. In 2010 she received the Maya Angelou Women Who Lead award. In 2012, she was named one of the Charlotte Business Journal’s 25 Outstanding Women in Business.
