Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams will have 11 student-athletes competing in the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo inside the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl between May 24-26. JCSU will have seven competitors from the women’s team and four from the men’s squad.

From the men’s side, sophomore Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica) along with juniors Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica), Jamille Callum (Orleans, MA), and Aking Ming (St. Thomas, Jamaica) have qualified as a unit for the 4x400m relay. The foursome has the third best seed time (3:10.39) in all of Division II.

Berch, Brown, and Ming will also represent JCSU in the championships for the 400m dash event. Ming has the top seed time in the nation at 45.81. Brown (46.79) and Berch (46.83) rank seventh and ninth, respectively with their times.

Freshman Samantha Elliott (Kingston, Jamaica) has a full slate for the nationals as a competitor in four events. Elliott has qualified individually for the 100m and 400m hurdles, as well as a member on the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.

Senior Rosemarie Carty (St. Andrew, Jamaica) will join Elliott in the 100m hurdles race. Freshman Monique Lovelock (St. Catherine, Jamaica) ranks sixth in the nation for the 400m hurdles and will compete in the event.

Lovelock, junior Naffene Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica), Elliott, and senior Monique Kelly (St. Andrew, Jamaica) will be the combination for the 4x100m relay. Sophomore A’Tyan Kennedy (York, SC) will link with Lovelock, Briscoe, and Elliott for the 4x400m relay event.

Junior Xahnn-Georgia Reid rounds out the Golden Bull qualifiers as the lone field performer in the long jump. Reid advanced with a leap of 5.93m during the outdoor season. All 11 JCSU student-athletes received All-Atlantic regional honors from the USTFCCCA.

The 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl, one of the premier outdoor facilities in all of Division II. The ThunderBowl features 6,500 seats, a synthetic turf field, a ten-lane all-weather track, throwing, jumping and pole vault areas, as well as a 27,000-square-foot field house, which includes a 4,300-square-foot strength and conditioning complex, team meeting areas, and student-athlete study-areas and lounges.

During the track championships, the on-site athletic training facility will also be open to all participants. Colorado State-Pueblo will also serve as the host for the 2013 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships.
