Coronation Ceremony Presents Miss JCSU and Inducts Student Government Association Officers

JCSU senior Rhonda Ieasha Wright was crowned Miss Johnson C. Smith University 2013-2014 during the Coronation Ceremony held on Oct. 24. The ceremony theme “Continuing the Legacy…A Showcase of Leadership, Royalty and Pride,” was held in the Jack Brayboy Gymnasium. She was crowned by Yolanda Babb who served as Miss JCSU 2012-2013, SGA President Shaquana Jackson and Louisa Taylor, Miss Senior.

Wright is a Presidential Scholar and senior mathematics education major who aspires to become a high school teacher. During her tenure at JCSU, Rhonda has been an active member of many organizations and team sports, including the “Luv-A-Bulls Cheerleading Squad, women’s volleyball team, and serving as a Smithite Ambassador. She is also president of the Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Her platform during her reign is “Phasing Up to New Possibilities,” which ties in with JCSU’s Foster Care Initiative. Rhonda and her Royal Court will mentor new JCSU students who have come out of foster care and the child welfare system.

Spencer Shaw Whittington, a senior visual and performing arts major, is the official escort to Miss JCSU. Whittington, who is a Golden Bull Scholar, created a mural inside the JCSU Arts Factory and was inducted into the Psi Rho Alpha Visual and Performing Arts Honor Society. Whittington has served in other leadership positions since coming to JCSU, including Freshman Class President, Chief of Staff, the Judicial Board, Basketball Manager and Mr. Junior. 

The ceremony included the introduction of campus kings and queens.

Student Government Association Officers Installed During Induction Ceremony

JCSU’s Coronation on Oct. 24 installed senior Shaquana Dominique Jackson as President of the Student Government Association for 2013-2014 and the other SGA officers with an Induction Ceremony.

The second eldest of six children, Jackson has served as a leader on campus by tutoring and mentoring other students in Student Support Services. She has served as a Resident Assistant and student-athlete on the women’s volleyball team, as Junior Class President and Smithite Ambassador. She is also a member of the Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  

The biology major plans to attend medical school to pursue her dream of becoming a neonatal physician. She represented Johnson C. Smith University with her peers at the Clinton Global Initiative University last spring at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., where they presented their Sustainability Village project.
