In an effort to enhance the annual Founders’ Day celebration for Johnson C. Smith University, President Ronald L. Carter created the Arch of Triumph Gala.

This signature event celebrates the university’s founding, honors distinguished individuals and alumni and raises funds to support the JCSU Fund. More than 900 guests typically attend the black-tie event, including corporate and community leaders and high-profile JCSU alumni.

The inaugural Arch of Triumph Gala held on April 18, 2009, at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte. The event attracted more than 690 guests and grossed more than $128,000 to benefit the JCSU Fund, which supports needed funds for scholarships, teaching and learning initiatives and programs vital to providing a quality educational experience to JCSU students. Since its inception, the Gala has grossed over $1,388,816.
