Breakfast for Success

Mel Blount

On Thursday, September 19th, Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU), Charlotte’s Premier Independent Urban University will host, “Breakfast for Success – A Business Forum featuring former Pittsburgh Steelers and Hall of Fame Inductee - Mel Blount.” The event will be held in Mary Joyce Crisp Taylor Student Union-Grimes Lounge on the JCSU campus at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds from this event will support the JCSU Spiritual Life Center.

After playing defensive back at Southern University, Mel Blount joined the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers in 1970. He is a four-time Super Bowl Champion and was a major part of the Steelers "Steel Curtain." Blount led the NFL in interceptions, played in five Pro Bowls and is a NFL Hall of Famer. Blount retired after the 1983 season. Shortly afterward, he became the NFL's director of player relations. Mel is the founder of Mel Blount Youth Home in Vidalia, Georgia and Claysville, PA. Their mission is to assist young boys in their pursuit to become a productive member of society. Mel’s vision is to establish more Youth Homes throughout the United States. His compassion, service and perseverance have already given many young men the opportunity and the desire to pursue their potential.
