Donor Recognition

Donations to Johnson C. Smith University provide opportunities for our students, support a strong faculty and enhance our facilities. Every donation is important, and our entire JCSU family is grateful for your generosity and commitment.

We recognize every donor with a thank-you letter, along with a receipt for tax purposes. Our recognition programs also honor donors who have gone above and beyond. Give now and you could join our most honored donors in one of the following distinguished groups:

1867 Society

Johnson C. Smith University’s rich legacy is rooted in its founding in 1867. The six societies that make up the 1867 Giving Societies recognize the cumulative giving of our most generous donors since January 2000.

Members of the 1867 Giving Societies make a difference in the lives of JCSU students, and their contributions are vital to the continuing excellence of the university.

Membership in one of the six prestigious societies is reserved for the university's most generous benefactors. Once you have given a cumulative total of $10,000 to Johnson C. Smith University, you will be recognized with membership.

All your JCSU gifts (and any matches from your employer) count toward that total, regardless of when you made the gifts or what program benefited from your generosity. All contributions count, as do charitable gifts to JCSU athletics and the JCSU Alumni Association.

There are no dues to pay for your 1867 Giving Societies membership. For more information, contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 704-330-1418.

Every Year Club

As a way of honoring donors who consistently give to the Annual Fund, we present the JCSU Every Year Club. Members of the Every Year Club have made JCSU a priority annually –making gifts for five consecutive years (donations are counted in the fiscal year in which they are given; the JCSU fiscal year begins July 1).

New members of the Every Year Club are inducted at the close of each fiscal year. They receive a custom-designed pin depicting historic Biddle Hall. When you see fellow alumni or friends wearing this pin, please extend yours thanks for their diligent support of JCSU.

Legacy Society

Established in 1997, the JCSU Legacy Society recognizes individuals who contribute to the future of the university by leaving more than memories. They include JCSU in their estate plans through endowed scholarships, property or other investments.

Many people think that making a legacy gift is exclusive to graduates who have been out for 20 years or more. However, that is not true. It is important for everyone to think about your estate, no matter how big or small, and how you want it to be dispersed.
