Johnson C. Smith University maintains a minimal health care service for the treatment of minor illnesses, accidents, and injuries. Health Supervision and medical care are provided by a Health Center Coordinator (LPN), Full-time LPN and part-time physician.

Student accident and sickness insurance is part of the student health care program. All students are included in the insurance program at a nominal cost, which is included in the registration fee. The insurance is provided as a supplement to the coverage available through the student's family insurance plan. The program is not intended to be comprehensive; neither is it intended to replace the family's taking responsibility for the student's health care.

A physical examination and a current immunization record are required of all new students before they are permitted to enroll at JCSU. The university requires three immunizations in addition to the North Carolina immunization requirements for students. See both lists of immunization requirements below.

  Hepatitis B series
  Meningococcal
  Tuberculin (PPD) Test
North Carolina Immunization Requirements
   Students 17 years of age or younger
 
  3 DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) or Td (Tetanus-diphtheria) doses
    One Td does must have been within the last 10 years.
  3 Polio (oral) doses
  2 Measles (Rubeola) doses, on or after the first birthday
    (or history of physician diagnosed measles)
  2 Rubella doses
    (or laboratory proof of immunity to rubella)
 

   Students born 1957 or later and 18 years of age or older

 
  3 DTP or Td doses
    One Td does must have been within the last 10 years.
