Services Offered
Confidentiality Information disclosed in
counseling sessions is deemed confidential and may not be
released outside the Counseling and Testing Center without
written permission by the student. During the intake
process, a professional counselor will provide a detailed
explanation and documentation explaining the legal and
ethical exceptions to confidentiality.
The Counseling and Testing Center provides confidential
intakes and assessments, individual and group counseling and
referral services to all students enrolled at Johnson C.
Smith University.
Individual Counseling To provide students the
opportunity to speak with a professional counselor regarding
personal and interpersonal issues that may be affecting
and/or interfering with their daily activities. The
Counseling and Testing Center will provide one-on-one
counseling where students can resolve problems, receive
feedback, and develop effective coping strategies.
Group Counseling To provide students an opportunity
to share similar concerns, experiences, to learn and
practice new ways of relating to others in a safe
environment. Group focus topics can include but are not
limited to anger management, academic success, stress
management, and conflict resolution.
Referral Services When the Counseling and Testing
Center feels a student’s needs or problems require
specialized help from an outside department or agency,
students will be referred to the appropriate outside source.
Outreach Programs The Counseling and Testing staff
are available to provide psychosocial workshops to student
groups/organizations and residence halls upon request.
A variety of workshop topics include but are not limited
to CTC services:
- College transition,
- Healthy eating habits,
- Self esteem,
- Depression,
- Conflict resolution,
- Alcohol and drugs,
- Violence prevention.
To schedule a counselor for a workshop, contact
the CTC two weeks prior to event.
Crisis Intervention
A professional counselor can be contacted after hours
to assist with student emergencies. Contact campus
police at extension 1003 to have a counselor paged
immediately.
Online Screening Program

Take a few minutes and complete this online depression
screening!
This anonymous screening can help students identify
symptoms of depression and it will provide immediate
feedback determining whether or not you need to see
and/or consult with a professional counselor. |
