Recommended Four-Year College Plan 

Planning your career search begins now.  If you are serious about embarking on your chosen career or attending graduate school upon graduation, it is essential that you begin planning and developing the necessary skills.

FRESHMAN YEAR

  • Register with Career Planning and Placement
  • Complete the SIGI – PLUS computerized guidance program
  • Meet with the Career Counselor for individual assessment
  • Begin formatting and developing your resume
  • Begin Networking Carefully select and participate in on-campus extra curricular activities that will enhance your skills
  • Develop good study habits -Identify possible academic majors
  • Visit the Career Planning and Placement for summer and part-time employment information
  • Attend Career Fairs and Graduate/Professional School Fairs

SOPHOMORE YEAR

  • Begin researching possible careers
  • Conduct informational interviews
  • Attend Career Development Workshops
  • Update your resume -Develop a cover letter
  • Decide on and declare a major
  • Research career options related to particular majors
  • Join student organizations related to your major or field of interest
  • Continue participation in extra-curricular and community activities
  • Maintain good grades
  • Write graduate/professional schools for their catalogs
  • Attend Career and Graduate/Professional School Fairs
  • Find career related work experience, internships, or cooperative education

 JUNIOR YEAR

  • Update your resume and cover letter
  • Attend Career Development workshops
  • Attend Career Fairs
  • Participate in Mock Interviews
  • Research companies
  • Assume leadership roles/officer positions in your organizations
  • Continue participation in extra-curricular and community activities
  • Attend Graduate and Professional School Fair
  • Research Graduate and Professional Schools
  • Prepare for graduate school exams
  • Perform internship, cooperative education, or career related work experience
  • Conduct informational interviews and make contacts with those in your own network

SENIOR YEAR

  • Develop a job search plan
  • Polish and refine your resume and cover letters
  • Make sure you have references and letters of recommendations
  • Attend Career Development Workshops
  • Sign-up for on-campus recruitment and participate in on-campus interviews
  • Research organizations
  • Interview with organizations
  • Attend Career Fairs -Take graduate school exams in the fall
  • Mail graduate school applications
  • Tour/Visit graduate schools
  • Hold a significant position within a campus organization
  • Continue participation in extra-curricular and community activities
