Adding Programs to the Start Menu in Windows XP

 
  • Right click on an “empty” area of the Taskbar and then click Properties.

 

   
  • On the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, click the Start Menu tab.

 

   
  • Click Classic Start menu

 

   
  • On the Customize Classic Start Menu dialog box, click Add

 

   
  • On the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Browse.

 

   
  • Navigate to the program that you want. In this case we want to see the Shared Documents .

NOTE: The location of Shared Documents on a Windows XP computer is C:\Documents and Settings.

This folder is by default shared on Windows XP. If anyone wants to share documents, all they need to do is to place it in the Shared Folder in the location mentioned above.

   
  • Click Next.

 

 
  • On the Select Program Folder, click Next.
 

   
  • On the Select a Title for the Program, accept the default.
  • Click Finish.
  • Click OK on the next screen.

   
  • Click Apply and then click OK.

 

   
  • To change the look of the Start Menuback to Windows XP, do the following:
    • Right click on an “empty” area of the Taskbar and then click Properties
    • On the Taskbar and Start MenuProperties, click the Start Menu tab.
    • Click to select Start menu
    • Click Apply.
    • Click OK.
   
  • To double check this is what you want, click start and point to All Programs and you should see Shared Documentson the bottom of the right hand column.

 

Adding Programs to the Start Menu in Windows 2000

Objective: To show you how to add programs to the start menu.

   
  1. Right click on an “empty” area of the Taskbar and then click Properties.
   

   
  1. Click the Advanced tab, click Add, and then click Browse.
   

   
  1. Click the plus sign to the left of my computer.

 

   

  1. Click the plus sign to the left of C: drive
     (may be called different things.)

 

   
  1. Click the plus sign to the left of Program Files and then click the plus sign to the left
    of Microsoft Office.
   

   
  1. Click the plus sign to the left to Office.

 
   
  1. Click the program executable to include in the start menu and then click OK.

   
  1. Click NEXT and then click next again.
   

   
  1. Click Finish
