This appointment begins in August 2013.
Teach an average of 12 credit-hours per semester including first-year Spanish with emphasis on interactive, communicative methods. Serve as a resource for all divisions and faculty teams to help enhance foreign language instruction. Pursue continuing/ongoing research pertaining to foreign language acquisition or a related field. Assist with co-curricular and service learning opportunities; Advise students; Serve on division, college, and university-wide committees; perform other duties as assigned.
A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching commensurate with appointment at the rank of Instructor. A strong commitment to diversity; ability to communicate and work effectively with a culturally-diverse campus community. Experience working with a diverse student population with varying levels of ability. A commitment to and passion for first year students; ability to engage students and the broader campus around issues related to orientation, transition, and retention. A willingness to perform campus service as well as counsel and advice students and student organizations. Leadership experience in a professional state-wide or national organization, and a strong record of collaboration. A flexible attitude and willingness to teach courses during the day, night, and if necessary, on weekends. An ability to facilitate class discussion and provide instruction using the latest technology and resources to promote learning; experience with teaching in an on-line environment; proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications, to include, but not limited to Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point.
M.A. degree in Spanish (or the teaching of Spanish) and a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the discipline; Ph.D. in the field/discipline preferred. Demonstrated teaching ability in lower-division courses using communicative approach and technology in the classroom. Basic computer literacy and research skills as demonstrated in the ability to use a personal computer, access and utilize internet resources, use email, etc.
