This visiting appointment begins in August 2013.
Teach an average of 12 credit-hours per semester including 1) first-year Composition with emphasis on critical/developmental writing and research skills, as well as 2) literature and 3) other appropriate courses. Serve as a resource for all divisions and faculty teams to help enhance writing instruction. Pursue continuing/ongoing research pertaining to writing or a related field. Assist with co-curricular and service learning opportunities. Advice students, serve on division, college, and university-wide committees. Perform other duties as assigned.
A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research, and service; established record of scholarship and teaching commensurate with appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.A strong commitment to diversity; ability to communicate and work effectively with a culturally-diverse campus community; experience working with a diverse student population with varying levels of ability.A commitment to and passion for first year students; ability to engage students and the broader campus around issues related to orientation, transition, and retention.A willingness to perform campus service as well as counsel and advice students and student organizations. Leadership experience in a professional state-wide or national organization, and a strong record of collaboration. A flexible attitude and willingness to teach courses during the day, night, and if necessary, on weekends. An ability to facilitate class discussion and provide instruction using the latest technology and resources to promote learning; experience with teaching in an on-line environment; proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications, to include, but not limited to Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point. Preference will be given to candidates that are credentialed to also instruct Criminology.
Ph.D. in English or a related field. ABD will be considered. Demonstrated teaching ability at the undergraduate level. Basic computer literacy and research skills as demonstrated in the ability to use a personal computer, access and utilize internet resources, use email, etc.
