The Golden
Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University fell in defeat to the
visiting Broncos of Fayetteville State University by a score
of 61-54. The Broncos connected on seven long balls en route
to their first victory over JCSU in Brayboy Gymnasium since
the 1996-97 season. Though the Broncos only shot 18% from
long ball range in the first half, they turned up the heat
in the second half nailing 4-of-8 shots.
Both teams
shot 36% from the field, but JCSU shot a dismal 5% from
beyond the arc. Free-throws were also a low point for the
gold and blue as they only hit 9-of-17 shots from the
charity stripe.
Freshman
Jerry Hollis
(Charlotte, NC) led all JCSU scorers with 14 points. He also
had five rebounds. Newcomer
Ryan Scott
(Reston, VA) continued his double-digit scoring ways with 13
points and two blocks.
Maurice Hooper (Reidsville, NC) rounds out the
double-digit scorers with 11 points.
Fayetteville State was paced by Zeke Mayes’ 16 points and
nine rebounds. Billy McDade contributed 11 points in the
victory.
The win
improves Fayetteville State’s record to 7-7, 3-3 in the
conference and a perfect 2-0 in the division. The loss drops
the Bulls to 5-5 overall, 3-3 in league play and 0-1 in the
western division.
Next up

January 18, 2007. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm in
