GPA Calculation
How to Calculate your Grade Point Average

Only letter grades (A, B, C, D and F) are computed in the grade point average.  Grades of (I, W and P) are not included.

A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
F = 0

To compute your grade point average:

  1. Multiply the point value of the grade received in each course by the number of credit hours assigned to the course.

  1. Add the number of hours computed together.  Add number of quality  points received.
  2. Divide the number of points earned by the number of hours attempted.  Carry it to 2 decimal places.  This is your grade point average.

The student in this example is in good academic standing, but could profit from repeating Math 1100 in the next semester.

On the transcript (not the grade report), hours and points for Math 1101 would be distributed as follows:

1st semester:  The student earns 3 hours and 3 points.  Each hour of “D” is worth one  point.

2nd semester:  The transcript records no hours (since they were already earned the semester before) and 6 points.

The difference between the value of a “D” and a “B”.  If we calculate the two semesters together, it looks like this:
