Student Load Excess Hours

During the regular session, a student may not enroll for more than 18 hours, except those students whose average was at least a 3.00 or better during the previous semester. Students who meet this requirement may apply to enroll for additional hours not to exceed a total of 22.

Any student who desires to enroll for more than 18 hours must obtain permission from his/her advisor or department chair and the vice president for Academic Affairs by completing an Overload Form.

During a summer term, a student may not enroll for more than nine hours.

Graduation candidates who plan to complete their requirements in July may enroll for nine to 10 hours.

Changes in Academic Hours

A full-time student is one who is registered for 12 or more hours. Students must pay for all hours in excess of 18. A student charged for hours in excess of 18 at registration must drop these within four calendar days from the first day of registration in order to have charges removed.

A student who is registered for 12 hours or more and decides to reduce the number below 12 hours must do so within four calendar days from the first day of registration in order to have charges removed. Charges will be computed on a per-credit-hour basis for students officially registered for fewer than 12 hours, and the student will be classified as part-time. Questions regarding billing should be directed to the Business Office.

Credit by Examination (AP)

Students satisfactorily completing Advanced Placement Examinations (three or above) will be awarded college credit. The vice president for Academic Affairs, in conjunction with the department chair, will award up to 15 credit hours, according to university and College Board regulations.
