Admissions Programs

The Office of Admissions at Johnson C. Smith University is responsible for the planning and implementation of admission programs and services. Our mission is to:

  • Inform and promote the university’s educational programs to perspective students and other constituents;
  • Review applications from, select, and notify those individuals seeking admissions; and
  • Provide orientation services to those individuals who have decided to enroll.

The goals and objectives of the Office of Admissions include recruiting, admitting, and enrolling qualified and capable students, continuing to improve the quality in services and programs that we provide to all of our constituents, and employing ethical and legal practices in the college admissions programs.

Admissions Policies

Candidates for admissions must submit a scholastic record that shows their ability to do college level work. Consideration is given to graduates from accredited secondary schools who have maintained a 2.20 grade point average or better and completed the following courses: 4 units of English, 3 units of Math, 3 units of Laboratory Science (i.e., Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry), and 2 units of Social Science. Likewise, students are required to submit a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 750 or an American College Test (ACT) of 15 to be considered for admission.

All candidates are encouraged to submit no more than two letters of recommendation from guidance counselors, teachers, or mentors in addition to a personal essay to support their application for admission.

Candidates for admission to Johnson C. Smith University are reviewed on their individual merit. Although several criteria are used in determining the admission of each individual candidate, no one criterion is necessarily the most important.

EACH AND EVERY APPLICANT MUST HAVE A HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATION RECORD!
