The Health and Human and Performance Department is located in the new Irwin Belk Track and Academic Complex. We offer four majors, each of which leads to the Bachelor of Science Degree. A student majoring in the department can choose from School Health (Teacher Education), Community Health, Physical Education (Teacher Education), and Physical Education (Sports Management. We also offer minors in each of the following: School Health, Community Health, Physical Education Pedagogy, and Sports Management.

All programs are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In addition, our teacher education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and lead to state licensure.

School Health Educators are licensed health specialists for grades K-12.  The school health educator usually teaches topics such as nutrition and fitness; human sexuality and family living; alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; psychological health; and consumer health in the public schools. They are also qualified to coach. Community Health Educators use a variety of methods, skills, and programs to help people identify health risks and related lifestyle behaviors.  While community health educators may be employed in a variety of settings, they are most commonly found in community health organizations, health care institutions, and in business environments.

Physical Educators are licensed physical education specialists for grades K-12.  The physical educator usually teaches topics such as motor development, sport skills, recreational games, lifelong activities, fitness, and weight management in the public schools. They are also qualified to coach.

Sports Managers are prepared to work in a variety of areas such as athletic administration and sport program management; sales and marketing; and event and facility management.
