Dr. Magdy Attia is the James B. Duke
Distinguished Professor, the Founding Chair of the Computer Science
and Engineering Department and the Founding Director of the
Technology Center at Johnson C. Smith University.
He is the 2006 recipient of the Dr. Richard Neel Career Achievement
Award of the Information Technology Charlotte, the recipient of the
Nations Bank Par Excellence Teaching award, the O'Herron
Distinguished Faculty Award, the Carolinas Associate Award for
Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in the Carolinas, and the
Distinguished Service Award at Johnson C. Smith University.
Dr. Attia is credited for building the new department of Computer
Science and Engineering and moving it to be the first among all
schools in the Carolinas in producing African Americans in computer
science and information systems and to be ranked the twenty second
nationally for the same category.
Dr. Attia has a broad spectrum of experience at the national and
international levels; he is an educator and a researcher in
technology areas that covers electrical and computer engineering,
microwaves and millimeter-waves technologies, wireless
telecommunications systems, the solution of inverse problems,
microwave measurements, non-destructive testing, computer
networking, modeling, software engineering and process design and
analysis. Dr. Attia has a broad experience in designing and
implementing assessment plans for academic programs; which are
applicable for businesses.
Dr. Attia has a long and deep experience in grant writing and
implementation. He received federal and private grants in technology
and educational areas from NASA, NSF, DOD, DOEd, UNCF, Duke Energy
Foundation, Packard Foundation in addition to other private sector
grants.
Dr. Attia has served and is serving on the Advisory Board of the
College of IT at UNC Charlotte, the Executive IT Summit, the Board
of Trustees of Johnson C. Smith University, the Advisory Board of
the School of Science and Technology of Benedict College in South
Carolina, the Steering Committee and several other committees of the
Charlotte Chamber ITC. He has a broad and strong experience in
strategic planning and administration.
Dr. Attia received his PhD in microwaves technologies from the world
renowned Moscow State University in Russia and received his Masters
and Bachelors degrees in electronics and telecommunications
engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Attia is a Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers, IEEE since 1991. He has over 30 publications
in referred journals, National and international Conferences in a
broad spectrum of technology fields.
