What You’ll Learn

Have you ever wondered what happens to your body when you exercise? Or how practicing yoga positions — like downward dog — can ease stress and tension in the mind and body?

Being physically fit isn’t just a way of life. At JCSU, it’s a pathway to a satisfying (and healthy) career teaching others how to take care of their bodies.

Like a fine-tuned machine, the human body is capable of amazing things, and our professors will teach you how to make the most of every muscle and fiber so that you can share that knowledge with others.

What will I study as a physical education major?

Our program will prepare you to teach physical education in grades K-12, as well as coach. You’ll learn the practical reasons behind nutrition and exercise, as well as how to teach this information to future students, clients or colleagues. Our students especially enjoy these classes because they are able to discuss and understand their own bodies and movements in everyday situations.

The courses you take in education and psychology will give insight into teaching a diverse classroom with students of different learning abilities and backgrounds. You’ll become a more effective teacher and have the skills to communicate with each individual student.

An added bonus is that during exams, yoga classes are held to help students alleviate stress and practice what they’ve learned in class.
