Honors Experience

BONA FIDE HONORS COLLEGE STATUS
(Conditions for INDUCTION)

Any Advanced Studies Freshman is eligible for Honors College Induction in the Spring of their Sophomore year after the completion of the following requirements.

Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Letter to the Dean requesting admission to the Honors College.
Recommendation letter from a JCSU Advanced Freshman Studies faculty member.
Selection of a hardcover book as presentation to the Honors College at the Induction ceremony.

INDUCTION OPTIONS

AFS students who have met the aforementioned four requirements.

First or second semester sophomores who have met the aforementioned four requirements.

Transfer students (up to the beginning of the junior year) who have met the aforementioned four requirements.

ACADEMIC PROBATIONARY STATUS

Bona Fide Honors College Students (persons inducted) whose GPA falls below a 3.0 will be placed on probation. They will have up to two semesters to raise the overall GPA to a 3.0. During the probation, they may not take over 18 credit hours, and may not live in the Living Center; however, during probation, they continue their statues as Honors Students and continue to meet requirements. The Dean can negotiate exceptions only.

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

In judgment cases, disciplinary probation may occur based on actions taken by the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Plagiarism - This is defined as the taking of ideas and writings from another and offering them as one’s own. It constitutes a serious academic offense in the academic community and it is therefore totally prohibited and unacceptable. Depending on the nature and degree of the infraction, plagiarism will result in the penalty of an F.

BONA FIDE STATUS BENEFITS

Members may petition to live in the Honors College Center (need 3.0 GPA or better).
Members may be funded for an international semester.
