Freshman chemistry instructor for two years. In charge of four - 20 student recitation sections. Organic chemistry laboratory instructor for three semesters.
U.S. Naval Academy (1966-1968)
Instructor of chemistry for over two years (assistant professor level at civilian rank). Responsible for lecture, laboratory and all classroom preparation for three 20-student sections per semester. Collateral duties included teaching seamanship and tactics and sailing during the summer and after classes during the semesters. Received two commendations for outstanding performance of duty.

Smith University - MBRS Program (1981-1991) - "Synthesis of Melatonin Analogs as Potential Cell Mitosis Inhibitors," (1991-1997) - "Incorporation of the Indole Ring into 4-Quinolone Antimicrobials," and "Synthetic Approaches to Biologically Significant Indoles" in general. Responsible for management of the projects and the guidance and training of associated research assistants plus any selected students in an undergraduate laboratory research environment.

University of Virginia (1968-1973) PhD Student Dissertation: "Synthesis of 2-Acylindole Precursors of Potential Alkaloid, Anticancer Compounds." Developed new nitrogen protecting group for indole metallation reactions.
