for Students
We have several
programs specifically tailored to prepare our students for
careers in their chosen fields.
The
SEEDS program (Strategies for Ecology
Education, Development and Sustainability) is a year-long
opportunity for undergraduate students to gain an in-depth
independent research experience with the guidance of a mentor.

MBRS-RISE
is Minority Biomedical Research
Support- Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement. MBRS-RISE
is a federally funded program for students interested in
biomedical research, and it offers opportunities for students at
all levels, as listed below.

Summer Science
Learning Community (SSLC)
A head start for first year students the summer before
entering JCSU. Begin your coursework early,
tuition-free and get paid! |

Recruiting and
Nurturing Science-Oriented Matriculates (RANSOM)
For first year students only. Attend workshops, work
with JCSU professors and act as mentors to high school
science students preparing for the annual Science
Olympiad. |

Science Help on
Call (SHOC)
For JCSU Freshmen through Seniors who are hired to
assist high school students preparing for the Science
Olympiad competition. |

Preparation for Research
Excellence (PRE)
A summer program for underclassmen only. Students can
earn 9 credit hours of instruction paid for by the
program. Starts mid May; ends mid July. |

Team Approach to Research
Excellence
(TARE)
For Sophomores through Seniors. This program pays
students to work in research labs on and off the JCSU
campus during the summer and during the academic year. |

Supplemental
Instructional Workshops (SIW)
1.5 hour-long workshops for
students lead by faculty who teach the core Natural
Sciences courses. This program improves student
performance in these courses and helps advanced students
review for standardized tests, such as the GRE and MCAT. |
JCSU
Alliance for Minority Participation Program is open to
first year math, biology, chemistry, computer science and
engineering majors. It offers advising, mentoring, tutors and
hands-on research experience. Students receive a stipend for
attendance to workshops and seminars.
