Criminology
The Criminology program at Johnson C. Smith University
has been one of the fastest growing and, in the opinion of our Criminology
students, the most exciting program on campus! Our program boasts a cutting
edge curriculum that includes specialized classes in Community Policing,
Criminal Law, and Crime & Society. We also offer special topic classes in
Drug Enforcement and Criminal Investigation, just to name a few.
The students that study Criminology are a close-knit group. We have an active Criminal
Justice Association, a.k.a. the Billy Club that has 60
members. We have a partnership with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
that opens it academy to us for training in firearms, SWAT, and physical
competency. We host a variety of guest speakers such as homicide detectives,
vice officers, and a K-9 patrol unit, complete with a drug dog demonstration.
Students have visited the State Bureau of Investigation and the county jail.
This high exposure in the justice community makes our graduates desirable
candidates for employment upon graduation.
With the national need for heightened security, the criminal justice field has
exploded with opportunities, but to be a part of its future you must be
educated. Join our family and become a part of the excitement and opportunity
that Criminology provides.
