Sacred Music Major

The sacred music curriculum at Johnson C. Smith is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for a career in Church Music Administration, Church Music Ministry, or Worship Leadership. Each student will receive a strong foundation in the areas of music history and theory, choral and instrumental methods, and management and administration. It is the aim of this program to prepare students to meet the demanding and multifaceted challenges of music ministry and administration.

In addition to music theory, music history and literature, and applied areas of concentration, sacred music majors will take a core of courses that include Hymnology, Sacred Music Literature, Electronic Music, Management, and both Choral and Instrumental Methods.
