JCSU Career Fair Thursday
More than 50 companies
and organizations will participate in this year's Annual Career Fair
to be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday in the in the Jack
S. Brayboy Gymnasium. Career Planning and Placement is asking
students to explore many different and exciting opportunities for
full-time and internship positions with these organizations. In
order to attend this event, you must have a resume and be dressed in
professional business attire. Before attending the event, it is
suggested that make an appointment with the Career Planning and
Placement office by calling Ext. 1045. To learn more about the

Yancy Represents University in Summer
Conferences
Johnson C. Smith University President Dr. Dorothy Cowser
Yancy has been real busy this summer representing JCSU around the
country. She recently served as Chairwoman of the HBCU Congressional
Forum Steering Committee. The committee held its meeting at the
Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. More than 70 HBCU Presidents
and their representatives attended the national event. Dr. Yancy
also was a special guest of President George Bush and his wife,
First Lady Laura Bush, to celebrate Black Music Month earlier this
summer. Thank you, Dr. Yancy for showing the nation that JCSU is a
shining example of leadership and academic
success!

Campus Police Officer says "Thanks for Your
Support"
Johnson C. University
Security Officer Melvin Waller Jr. recently completed a grueling
150-mile bike marathon to support victims of Multiple Sclerosis.
Waller said he was able to raise more than $800, which he donated to
the National MS Society, due to donations he received through
faculty, staff and students. Waller, who has worked at the
University since 1996, was one of approximately 2,063 cyclists.
Thanks to the JCSU family for supporting Officer Waller and people
with multiple sclerosis. The money will be used for multiple
sclerosis research.

Local Fraternity Recognized in National
Publication
Congratulations to
JCSU's Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity student chapter for being featured
in the fraternity's most recent national publication, The
Sphinx. JCSU's chapter, Alpha Omicron, is the first student
chapter organized in North Carolina. It is in its 81st year on
campus.The magazine featured the fraternity's efforts to remain
active in both community and campus events.

Sports Illustrated Magazine Selects JCSU
Student
Congratulations to JCSU Senior Christian Joyner.
Sports Illustrated Magazine selected Joyner out of a large group of
applicants to spend a weekend in Las Vegas to serve on a panel to
discuss issues facing college students. Joyner, a Communications
Arts major, has now participated in this program for two consecutive
years. He also has interned with the magazine in New York City. Good
Job Christian!

JCSU SGA President Participates in National
Student Leadership Program
JCSU Student
Government President Ebonee Mayo-Mitchell has received outstanding
recognition from Nissan Corporation member for participating in the
recent Nissan Student Government Leadership Program. The leaders
received leadership training from NBA Hall of Famer Julius Ervin,
Motivational Speaker Steadman Graham, Media Personality Tavis Smiley
and others. Ebonee received a certificate after completing her
training. More than 60 student government leaders participated in
the leadership training which was held at Tougaloo College.

The Urban League Young
Professionals and the Mecklenburg County Black Political Caucus will
be sponsoring an Election Pep Rally Thursday, September 15, 2005
from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Charleston House Restaurant (3120
The Plaza). This is a kick-off event for the Candidates Forums that
will be hosted at JCSU next month.
The Urban League of Central Carolinas Young Professionals
Auxiliary is also hosting its Annual Casino Cruise on Lake Norman
Friday, September 16, 2005 8 p.m. to Midnight * Must arrive by
7:30 p.m. to board the yacht.

Career Services Offers Leadership Workshop
Career Services
Director Barbara Wilks will present a leadership workshop from 10
a.m. until noon September 21, 2005 in Conference Rooms B & C
located in the University Memorial Student Union. This interactive
session will help you understand your Core Motive and provide
insights to working more effectively with others. The profile will
help you understand your innate strengths and limitations, and help
you relate more effectively with others, both at work and at home.
Participants will be asked to complete a pre-program exercise.

your car. It could mean the difference between being safe and having
your identity stolen. *Unopened mail for pre-approved credit

JCSU Counseling and Testing Center Moved to
New Location
The Counseling and
Testing Center has moved to the former President's Office building.
The new office is located in the white house next to the Honor’s
College. If you have any questions, you may reach the Office of
Counseling and Testing at Ext. 1044.
