* William Lindsey (’31) from
Philadelphia, PA celebrated his 100th birthday on April 15, 2005.
* Diron Ford (’93) was recently named the 2004-2005
Warwick High School Teacher of the Year. Warwick High School is
located in Newport News, VA.
* Demetria “Dee” Alexander-Grissett (’92) received her
Master’s of Business Administration degree from Fayetteville State
University on May 7, 2005. She also began her new position as
Director of Financial Aid at Mount Olive College.
* Davida M. Harris (’03) received her Master’s of Arts
degree from The University of Akron, June 2005. Davida plans to go
on for a Doctorate in Sociology.
* Lt. Lushan A. Hannah (’00), Marine Safety Office/Group,
Los Angeles – Long Beach, CA, has been selected as the coast guard
recipient of the 2005 NAACP Roy Wilkins renowned service award.
* John D. Jones (’83) is the new vice president for
institutional effectiveness and research at Bennett College for
Women. Jones came to Bennett College from Fort Valley State
University in Fort Valley, GA.
* Dennis L. Humphrey (’97) is currently the ABD at the
University of Georgia, a part-time instructor for Piedmont College,
and was recently appointed Assistant Principal of Winterville
Elementary School in Athens, GA.
* Dr. James B. Ewers, Jr. (’70) recently published his
first book. It is entitled “Perspectives from Where I Sit: Essays on
Education, Parenting and Teen Issues”. He is the Associate Executive
Director for Student Affairs at Miami University, Middletown Campus
in Ohio.
* Johnny V. Sidbury (’99) recently opened his own
management company named Sidbury Management, LLC located in
Washington, DC. Sidbury Management, LLC will handle real estate and
property management, sidburymanagement@yahoo.com.
* Lauren Kendall (’99) received a Master’s in Early
Childhood Education from Brooklyn College in New York City and now
teaches pre-school.
* L. LaDell Adams (’01) received a Master’s of Science
degree in Community Health Education/Promotion from Old Dominion
University in Norfolk, VA.
* Rev. Dr. Carl L. Manuel, Jr. (’79) was asked to give the
invocation at the North Carolina Senate meeting by the Honorable
Governor Mike Easley on May 17, 2005 in Raleigh, NC. Dr. Manuel is
the Senior Pastor of New Goshen United Methodist Church in
Greensboro, NC and professor of Reading and Religion at Bennett
College for Women. He is also the immediate past province chaplain
of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
* Herman Bagley (‘66) recently retired from The Children’s
Aid Society. He gave 50 years of service and many impressive
contributions to the agency.
* Mrs. Vickie Moseley-Jones (’80) has joined Habitat’s
Board of Directors. Mrs. Moseley-Jones is the Director of Human
Resources at Craven Community College, where she has been employed
since 1988.
* Dr. Charles Edward Monroe, Sr. (’78) will become
principal at Cummings High School in Graham, NC for the 2005-2006
school year.
* The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation selected Kenneth
A. Goodwin, Jr. (’96) as a Mansfield fellow. Mr. Goodwin
currently serves as a Bank Examiner/Financial Surveillance Analyst
at the Federal Reserves Bank of New York (FRBNY) and a former
participant of its Professional Development/Sequential Assignment
Rotational Program.
* Myrtle Davis (’59), Mary Flowe (’42) and
Mattie Grigsby (’48), members of the 13Ettes Pinochle Club
recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with other active members;
the group of card sharps were organized in 1955, while four original
founders are still members.
* Kyana Malea Wood, daughter of Billy Wood (’85) and
granddaughter of Bettye Johnson Wood (’53), was born on
Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 2:55 a.m.
* Debony Burrowes (’96) is celebrating the one-year
anniversary of her magazine named SOTAC (State of the Arts and
Culture). Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Charlotte, SOTAC is

* Larrie Foster (’43): Educational icon, devoted public
servant, spent 37 of his 85 years in education. In a recent article
written in the July 9th edition of the Cheraw Chronicle &
Chesterfield Advertiser, Cheraw, SC., Foster began his career when
he opened Edwards Elementary School in Chesterfield, SC and served
as its principal for 29 years. He retired in 1983.
* Matthew Becoate was selected for an internship with the
ESPN office in New York City; he will work at the ABC studio in New
York beginning June 6, 2005 – August 26, 2005.
* Kimberlei Davis (’03) received a Master’s Degree in
Education from Cambridge College; she has also been accepted to
State University of Albany for the post-graduate Urban Education
Program.
* Marguerite Lee (’72) received a Master’s of Divinity
(with a concentration in Pastoral Care & Counseling) from Hood
Theological Center, Salisbury, NC. on May 14, 2005
* Nimanee Mosley (’03) will complete the Graduate Program
at West Chester University on August 24, 2005. She will acquire a
MPH degree with a concentration in Health Administration.
* Talece Y. Hunter (’04) was sworn in as the Graduate
Student Senator: College of the Arts and Sciences – Ohio University
(Athens, OH) for the 2004-2005 academic year.
